Who are they?
Symbion is one of Australia’s largest national wholesalers of healthcare products and services with over 3500 pharmacy customers throughout the country. They opened their first pharmacy in Adelaide in 1845 and since this time, Symbion has grown to become an integral part of the Australian healthcare system and revenue in excess of 2 billion dollars per year.
The warehouses have over 25,000 square metres in floor space. This consists of a receivables & despatch area, stock management area (which includes multiple coolrooms and freezers), product testing areas, high security product areas and office.
One of their biggest frustrations was the quality of the cleaning that they were getting from their previous cleaner contractor. In addition, there was a high level of complexity, security and compliance that needed to be considered. The standards they adhere to are second to none and any supplier is held to the same standard. Adherence to work, health & safety guidelines are all extremely important and regulated.
Strict protocols are required through the facilities, but in particular the clinical trial area need to be highly sanitised. Due to the security at the facility, staff turnover from the contractor was disruptive due the level of training required to be allowed onsite. Accurate logs are also required to ensure quality and safety is maintained at all times.
The initial engagement consisted of a full site inspection with our team and their team, to collectively identify scheduling challenges, areas on concern, and the draft an appropriate level and frequency of cleaning.
Cleaners are operating around the clock from when the warehouse opens until when it closes, therefore time management of the cleaning schedule is critical.
We then went away and created a bespoke cleaning levels for every single cleaning activity throughout the organisation, supported by a detailed scheduling and logging system to ensure appropriate cleaning is conducted. At any time Royal Leaders and Symbion can check to see what has been done and what is scheduled to be done. Symbion management know 6 months ahead, exactly what tasks are being done on what day.
The above is certainly one of our more detailed engagements we have with any client, and surprisingly we were still more competitively priced than their previous contractors.
